The MWLOA provides training opportunities for all persons interested in officiating girl's lacrosse in Michigan. The MWLOA conducts training sessions throughout the year, both by MWLOA members and through U.S. Lacrosse resources.
New officials and those simply interested in girl's lacrosse should take a New Official's Training course, which consists of 6 hours of classroom instruction. In addition, on-field training is part of becoming a competent official. Many opportunities are offered to shadow experienced officials plus we had a mentor program in which new officials are partnered with an experienced officials for the season. Questions regarding training can be addressed to the Steve Rideout at rideoutref@gmail.com.
Each official must carry a U.S. Lacrosse rating, which is given after a rating session where the official is observed by various expereinced officials. Newer officials are typically given an Apprentice rating, while those with more experience can achieve a Local, District, or even National rating. More information can be found on the U.S. Lacrosse website. For specific information, please contact the MWLOA Ratings Chair at mwloaratings@gmail.com.
